« L’indignation nous rend humains. »
Stéphane Hessel, du haut de ses 93 ans, défend dans cet essai l’idée selon laquelle l’indignation est le ferment de l’esprit de résistance. De nos jours les raisons de s’indigner sont moins nettes et plus complexes qu’auparavant. Mais « cherchez et vous trouverez » dit-il : l’écart grandissant entre les très riches et les très pauvres, l’état de la planète, le traitement réservé aux immigrés, aux Roms, la course au « toujours plus », à la compétition, la dictature des marchés financiers à la situation imposée par l’Etat israélien à la Palestine…Et surtout, il explique qu’il ne faut pas se taire ou fermer les yeux, l’indifférence est la pire des attitudes.
Par ce regard lucide porté sur la société actuelle, l’essayiste fait appel à une « insurrection pacifique » et explique que la non-violence est le chemin à suivre même si il existe une espérance violente.

Mais qui est ce vieil homme qui aspire à ce soulèvement de masse ?
Hessel est un résistant qui s’est rendu à Londres à la suite de l’appel du général De Gaulles et s’est engagé dans les forces françaises libres. Capturé par les allemands, il est conduit aux camps de Buchenwald et de Dora. Il en réchappe de peu, début 1945. La guerre terminée, il entame une carrière politique et co-rédige la Déclaration Universelle des Droits de l’Homme en 1948.
Une bataille réussie ?
Le mouvement des « indignés » qui a commencé en Espagne et qui s’est répandu un peu partout dans le monde se réclame des influences du pamphlet de Hessel.

The Hunger Games
The Hunger Games trilogy written by Suzanne Collins is a captivating novel filled with suspense, action and romance.
It is about a young girl named Katniss Everdeen who lives in the 12th district of Panem; a nation situated in the north of America, governed by the Capitol who forces districts (12 in total) to send one boy and one girl, each year during Reaper’s day, between the ages of 12 and 18 to participate in the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games are the punishment imposed on all districts after district 13th had tried and failed to rebel against the Capitol. It consists of a brutal and horrifying fight to the death where one of 24 kids will survive and it’s a reminder of how powerful the Capitol is.
Katniss Everdeen is a marvelous sixteen year old to whom survival is a second nature, as she struggles to feed her mother and sister after her father death. She does so by hunting beyond the fences of district 12. On the 74th Annual of the Hunger Games Katniss’ sister Prim’s name is selected and so Katniss immediately volunteers to take her 12 year old sister’s place. And so she and Peeta must take on the journey forced upon them all the way to the Capitol and beyond…. And for Katniss, surviving is the only option.
